Fall 2018 & Spring 2019

Cornell Project 2Gen and CCE Tompkins have partnered together, through the support of the William T. Grant Foundation, to examine the association between the opioid epidemic and child maltreatment rates in low-income, rural communities. As part of this work, Tompkins County community members came together in a series of community cafés to discuss:

  • Local impacts and responses to the epidemic

  • Unmet needs of families affected by opioid misuse

  • Opportunities for research-practice collaborations

What is a Community Café?

  • A Café is a community conversation hosted by community partners.

  • Café conversations spark leadership to develop the supportive relationships necessary to strengthen families.

  • Cafés support culturally diverse families in working together for a common cause.

  • Cafés help to engage and empower families and communities.
